What is Chi Energy?

The theory of Chi energy (or Qi energy) is a vital component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).  Chi is the connective energy that runs throughout the entire body. It is often referred to as the life energy or life force within the body. It is not composed of a particular form of matter, but rather resembles the breath and blood that flow through our bodies. It moves freely through pathways and nourishes the systems of the body and mind. Because it is related to everything, understanding chi and maintaining a healthy chi is an important part of TCM.

Ways to Use Chi for Better Health

Chi can be controlled and maintained in order to stay healthy. Through Qigong meditation and acupuncture, chi is controlled and kept flowing freely. According to TCM practices, the best way to resist disease is by keeping the flow of chi free and normal. It is believed that blocked or polluted chi is what allows disease to invade the body systems in the first place. If Chi is blocked or stagnant, illness can invade the body. Warning signs that your chi is blocked include:

Meditation and Tai Chi are both proven methods to alleviate symptoms of blocked chi and prevent the occurrence of further disease or ailments.  Both work to control breathing and circulation, which are both pathways for chi to move throughout the body.  When breath and blood carry chi energy freely, the mind is cleansed and inner peace is felt.  This also helps to improves overall health.
