Outbreaks of Herpes I was in the 7th grade in middle school and I would get horrible outbreaks of herpes on my lips, 5 to 6 sores at a time. Nobody knew what this was until I went to the Doctor and they classified me with Herpes mouth simplex type 1. Rumors were flying around my school that I had herpes, with the kids only thinking of genital herpes, so of course it was known I had genital herpes. I just wanted to cry because it wasn't true! During one of my sports game I got hit in the mouth, and my braces got shoved into my lip. I went to the hospital to have my lips checked out because I had 7 cold sores all over my mouth. The doctor thought I had Impetigo. I told him no, no, no, its herpes you don't understand, but he didn't want to listen. He gave me medicine for the Impetigo. which I didn't even have. The medicine killed all the bacteria in my body, the good and the bad. The good bacteria was what helped my cold sores go away. Resulting with that, I had a total of 13 sores on my lips. School was horrible, with everyone questioning me and asking me if I had herpes. I cried and went to the guidance counselor, but they heard the rumor too, and told me to sick medical help and get treated. I felt like I was some strange alien to my school and to my friends. I felt I was being rejected for having a common "disease". Matters got worse. I am highly allergic to metal and my braces were not helping. I would get random breakouts of sores from my braces. I would tell people I was allergic to my braces whenever the herpes question came up. Once I got my braces off, the number of sores went down like crazy. Now, I only get a sore or two if I'm under a lot of stress or prior to getting sick. I still don't know where I got the virus from in the beginning. I will always have it though. Just Stay Strong. |
