How Does Society View Older Women and Younger Men Dating?

Known as May-December romances, it is no longer just men who choose to date members of the opposite sex who are younger. The playing field between the sexes is becoming more level and women are choosing to do it as well as it becomes more and more socially acceptable all of the time.

Many women reach an age where they find that men their own age are too old for them and so they look to younger men who are generally more open to try new things and who are passionate and enjoy having fun. Older women are surer of themselves and of their place in the world and they are sexy, attractive and confident. As well older women tend to be settled into their careers and are in touch with who they are and the direction they are going in and this makes them more appealing to younger men who may not be as established or settled in their own lives just yet.

Bridging the age gap often depends on the two people involved. While situations may be similar, no two are exactly alike. Be aware that the larger the age gap, the more problems you could potentially run into. Everyone has their own personal gauge for who is too young or too old for them to date. Some people say that a four to nine year age difference is fine but once you pass the double-digit age gap you are in uncharted and risky territory. In this case you may find that you have more differences than you care to have. Compatibility is really the key as well as mutual trust and respect.

Once considered taboo and very controversial by society’s standards, more and more women are dating young men and loving it. Actress Demi Moore led the pack in Hollywood and she never apologized to anyone for her choice to date younger actor Ashton Kutcher. Madonna’s hubby is ten years her junior and these two stars are only the beginning of a new trend in dating. May-December romances where the woman is senior in age, are not just blossoming in Tinsel town but are becoming a reality everywhere you look.

Men dating younger women was always the norm but now women are seeing the advantages of being with a younger man. The silver screen is now catching onto this up to date trend in dating patterns as evidenced by the recent movie “Prime” in which an attractive, divorced 37 year old career woman played by Uma Thurman, falls for a man 14 years her junior, much to the chagrin of his mother, who also happens to be Uma’s therapist, played brilliantly by Meryl Streep.

Regardless of how society views the May-December romances when it is the woman who is older and not the man, after all is said and done, it really comes down to a matter of personal choice and does the other person want the same things out of life as you do. Love never conforms to logic or to any perfect standard and therefore we can never know for sure who will catch our eye and who will not.
