When Should I Talk To My Doctor About Diabetes?

It is highly recommended that you talk with your doctor as soon as possible about diabetes, even if you have not been diagnosed with it. If you think you have any of the symptoms, ask to be tested.

If you are diagnosed with diabetes, it is even more important that you start treatment as soon as possible. Your doctor can determine the type of diabetes you might have, evaluate the severity of it, and prescribe the right treatment and medications for you.

In many instances, diabetes has been a silent killer. Many people have diabetes for years before they show any symptoms at all. By the time they are diagnosed, they may already have had kidney failure, a heart attack, a severe stroke and other life threatening issues that are brought on by diabetes.

Although there is no cure for diabetes, there are ways for you to stay healthy and reduce the risk of complications. The earlier you diabetes is detected, the sooner your doctor can begin treatment and the sooner you can make the necessary changes to your lifestyle to keep your diabetes under control.
