What is Farsightedness? Farsightedness is a condition where a person can see distant objects very well, but have difficulty seeing objects that are close. Objects that are near will appear blurry to people who have farsighted vision. Farsightedness is common. Farsightedness is also called hyperopia. What Causes Farsightedness? Farsightedness occurs when light rays entering the eye focus behind the retina, instead of directly on it. Treatments for Farsightedness Farsightedness can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. The glasses or contact lenses will change the way light rays bend into the eyes. Refractive surgery, such as LASIK or CK, is also a treatment option. Surgery may reduce or eliminate your need to wear glasses or contact lenses.
