State of New Mexico public information and
helpful resources in your area

New Mexico's goverment and private sectors have a large wealth of information for individuals seeking assistance on a variety of concerns and related illnesses. These services are available on a wide scale throughtout your community. In addition, your family physician or local hospital may be able to give you a referral.

There are several sources of information that you can tap into. Your local mental health authority, which is generally a part of the local government, may also be useful. Your city or county government may also be able to help. For example, food bank directories are listed in many cities of New Mexico. Head Start programs are available for children who are qualified under state regulations. The Agency for the Aging may be able to refer you to other senior programs. Homeless shelters may be categorized for men, women, or children. Families are welcomed at some locations. WIC programs can be an added addition for nutrition and educational information for many families.

New Mexico's Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) has made a great impact on the services that are provided for children's families that do not qualify for Medicaid, yet, cannot afford to buy private insurance for their children.
