What is a Sauna?

A sauna is a small room designed to be heated to 185 Fahrenheit. When you sit in a sauna, your body will produce approximately a quart of sweat per hour.

Health benefits of using a Sauna?

There are many health benefits associated with using a sauna. Some of the health benefits are listed below:

  • Detoxifies the body of harmful chemicals. The high tempearatures inside the sauna caues the body to sweat. The skin eliminates toxins through sweating.
  • Increases blood circulation in both deep and surface tissues.
  • Accelerates healing from wounds, injuries, and surgeries.
  • Improves skin nourishment/skin condition.
  • Warms muscles. Warm muscles are more flexible, perform better, and minimizes exercise related injuries.
  • Stimulates deep cleansing of skin pores. Heavy perspiration in a sauna is an excellent way to combat skin blemishes including acne. Acne is caused by blocked pores.
  • Burns calories. About 600 calories burned in 30 minutes while sitting in a sauna.

Be careful when using a sauna:

  • Don't drink alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant and counteracts the benefits of the sauna.
  • Older people need to avoid or limit their time in the sauna.
  • People with heart ailments or respiratory diseases should avoid the sauna.
  • If you have chronic ailments, talk with your doctor before you use a sauna.
  • Don't eat before you use a sauna.
  • Avoid drug use and prescribe medications before using a sauna.
  • If you experience dizziness, problems with breathing, or a general feeling of ill health, leave the sauna immediately.
  • Stay in no more than 15–20 minutes.
  • Cool down gradually afterward.
  • Drink two to four glasses of cool water after leaving a sauna.
  • Don’t take a sauna when you are sick, and if you feel unwell during your sauna, leave immediately.
