I want to marry your daughter: How to ask her parents for approval
by Alexander Canone

Planning to marry your girlfriend can be one of the most exciting times of your life. However, telling her parents can be one of the most nerve wrecking situations to deal with. Here are some tips to help you tell your girlfriend's parents you want to marry her.

Dress for the occasion: Before you talk to her parents, make sure you are dressed for the occasion. If she has old fashioned parents, wear a pair of slacks and a nice shirt.

Take a deep breath and relax: Before you go to her parents' house take time to relax and prepare yourself. You want her parents to think your confident and you know for sure you want to marry their daughter. Just remember to be cool, calm, and collective.

Bring a gift: Butter up her parents by giving them a gift. It shows her parents that you were thinking about them, and they are important enough for you to spend time and money.

Ask for both parent's approval: If you can, ask both of her parents at the same time. It's important to hear from her mom and dad because they are two of the most important people in her life.

Give compliments: When your asking for her parents approval for marrying their daughter, give her parents compliments. Tell them how much you respect the fact that she has a loving family and you want your marriage to be just like theirs.

Be stern and polite: When your asking her parents for their approval, look them into their eyes and let them know that the decisions you arr making are serious. Laugh only when they laugh, if you laugh too much, they won't take you seriously.

Tell them how much you love your daughter: The most important words that can come out of your mouth is how much you love their daughter. Tell her parents that you're in love with her and you are positively sure she's the one you want to marry.

After you've asked her parents for their approval, ask them what they think about you proposing to their daughter. Make sure you leave their house with their approval, if not you're in for a long ride.
